Abstract People – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

The palette and
the brush

can never paint
the secret fountain

The wisdom
to comprehend

the flowing emotions
as high as a mountain

What you see
is what you get

but you can
never be certain

Once you meet
the abstract people

when you start
looking at the mirror

Abstract people. Have you met them?  Do you recognize them?  Do they ever bother you?  Do you understand them?

Understanding them is like viewing a painting.  Your interpretation is limited to your understanding.  Your understanding is limited to your truth.

Looking at the painting, how could you refute the visible signs of the brush if you’re only seeing the canvas? And how can you accept the beauty of its diverse colors if you hate to walk in shades of gray and live your life only in black and white?

And what is your truth? Is the sun your truth or the moon on a dark night? Is it the rainbow after the storm or the pot of gold after the rainbow? Is your truth your refuge when life is a curse or it becomes your oath when life is a gift?

Abstract people.   Most of the time,  you don’t understand them.  Sometimes, you are one of them.

Beholden

Beholden, rhyming poem about letting go, joys of joel poems, inspirational life poem
Beholden – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

Summer singing

Its lovely goodbye

still you say

don’t leave me sunshine.

Leaves are falling

turning golden,

still you think

you are beholden

To memories

of summertime

like chasing

elusive butterflies

but when winter

showcase its

magical

snowflakes

you dream

of bonfire

scented

autumn

for you

rather kiss

the breeze

of yesterday

than embrace

the beauty

of tomorrow’s

blossoms.

Not Just on Sundays

Not just on sundays – joysofjoel.wordpress.com

They saw you creep in like a beggar in the city
Although you’re not asking for coins nor begging for pity.
The unkempt clothes that ruin their image
A big no to their sundays that seem like sacrilege.

Roaming the wilderness looking for kindness
A drop of holy water to enlighten their blindness
The scented candles and all those fragrant flowers
Purity of one’s heart you wish they’ll discover.

A preachy sermon to help thy own neighbour
Dropping coins to serve their master’s favor
Turning away seeing you as a leper
Dirty torn clothes judging you as a pauper.

You light a candle and utter your prayer
Sharing your bread to a needy stranger
Not your leftover or your excess clover
And you do it any day not just on sundays.

Fair Expectations

fair expectations, life is fair its the world thats not, expect greater, expect the unexpected
Expect The Unexpected

Yes,  it’s your nature to be fair but it’s also the scorpion’s nature to sting.  The world is a huge jungle, if you want to get your lion’s share you should expect the unexpected.  Do not expect to be unscathed or unbitten while you hike that trail.  Fair expectations and all those complications, a truthful confirmation that it won’t be easy to fulfill your journey but it will be all worth it.

The Hidden Letters

poetry, letters, words, joys of joel poetry, hidden letters, what if
Reading between the lines, i no longer ask why.

The Hidden letters i can’t decipher,
until the leaves fell last october.

When you believe that it’s over
you can’t be friends nor lovers

because the trust was trashed and slashed
just let fate dictates the If’s and why’s.

Shit happens.
That’s Life.

Spiral, Musings of An Anonymous Bipolar

joys of joel poems, poem about bipolar disorder, what is bipolar, signs of bipolar
Spiral, Musings of An Anonymous Bipolar – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

Smiling then you frown
Happy then you’re sad

Opposing genes
Penultimate extremes

Jumping in the sand
Drowning while you stand

Unpredictable mood swings
Euphoria on trivial things

Feeling like a switch
Inexplicable rapid speech

Singing ’til tomorrow
Dancing when you see the rainbow

Normal as you look
Symptoms overlooked

As the stringing of the beads
No one can easily read.

Drinking alcohol
Thoughts you can’t control

Biting all its toll
After that spiral fall

Crying out for help
Medicines will never melt

The stigmas that you see
Loud as a wailing banshee.

Indifference to the sting
Love and Understanding

Acceptance is the key
It might happen to you and me.

You will never be truly free
if you are so obsessed
in what others see.

How they see you
is none of your business.
Who you are is what really matters.

Love is giving everyone the freedom
to be who they are
and not who you want them to be.

Learn to love yourself and set yourself free.

The Colorful Butterfly

a poem about self discovery and transformation, joys of joel poems, poetry, butterfly
The Colorful Butterfly – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

Did you see the signs
The big things that you asked
Ignored by above
when you think it was not enough?

The flight that you missed
the wings that did not exist
The lure of the nectar
when you were still a caterpillar

The time you do not hold
as you crawl to find your abode
the leaves that you kissed
when your world is in abyss

The changing of the seasons
As your color resembles the reasons
Suddenly you turn around
as it changes your breeding ground

The sights, you were astound
when you discover your wings
and finally found
that flowers are not a dream
but a part of your color scheme.

As you hop in and enjoy your flight
you no longer wonder why
everything takes time
because You are now
the colorful butterfly.
