I was strolling in quebec city when i noticed a busload of kids. A bystander told me the kids are in for the Ghost Tour.
A ghost tour in broad daylight? Well, why not? Minors should not be loitering in a foreign city searching for ghosts past midnight. The most they can do is listen to ghost stories in broad daylight.
So i followed the marathon, took pictures and listen for a while. I did enjoy some haunted stories. I realized that places are the same anywhere we go. Every city has its ghost stories and every place has its haunted past.
Good thing the past stop haunting me, i learned to let bygones be bygones and move on. Otherwise i should be the one standing on that tour, narrating my real life ghost story. The one that broke my heart, the goodlooking ghost that made me cry and gave me my worst scary moments Those moments when i used to think that being alone is a nightmare.
What happened to the Ghost Tour, well, i have no idea. I left amused and amazed. Don’t ask me why. Can’t you read between the lines? 🙂
Traveling , it leaves you speechless and turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta
How does traveling change us? Let me count the ways.
1. It opened our eyes.
We see things we never see before or things we pretend we’re not aware of.
2. It turns us into a storyteller.
Well what’s the use of reading a book if you can’t share its story. My friend once said that just because you can write a one paragraph article about something doesn’t necessarily make you a writer. To some extent i agree with him but come to think of it, if one can write , he is a writer , either a good writer or a bad writer doesn’t make a difference , after all it is your story. Besides, taste is subjective. 🙂
3. We discover something about ourselves.
We all want to share our photos, where we’ve been, what we ate, what we did ,not just to our family and friends, even to strangers….as if we are always the center of other people’s universe. Can’t blame us, we’re all humans…needing validations and a sense of happiness , always thinking that something worth doing is worthless unless being shared.
A little peek into our travel journey and we discover, inside us, there’s a tinge of narcissism.
I remember an old friend saying “you can see how lonely a person is by the number of times he indulge in selfies.” I definitely beg to disagree, happy people want more happiness by sharing their happiness. Well, of course there will always be an exception to that rule. Most of us would rather share our experiences than our savings, i don’t think that’s narcissism and even if it is…..who cares? Love begins within , whatever that means.
4. We learned time.
“I don’t have time, i’m too busy. The truth is we all believe that we are the master of our fate and the captain of our ship and yet we never learn that time must be our slave and not the other way around for how can one say that we make our own life and yet we don’t own our time…that confused me. In any way one defines it, i learned that we learned the essence of time when we travel.
5. It changes us.
Either it transformed us into grateful beings for appreciating all the things we have or unsatisfied creatures yearning for more.
A certain writer says “it leaves you speechless” , yes, speechless because you realized that traveling is not about the places you’ve been to but the moments you discover that the journey begins and ends within you. .
I would never imagine that i would be reading this thing. How time changed my reading habits. A decade ago i would spend my time browsing fashion magazines and home journals. Things that give me a get go while designing fashion jewelries and home accents. Now another road has taken me off the path and surely i’m loving every minute of it.
Learning is really an unending journey. Blogging on wordpress taught me a lot of things. Now it excites me reading the copyblogger, learning about the benefits of infographics, the meaning of SEO and the wonders of keywords and meta tags which up to now i’m still totally clueless.
Creativity or Web Traffic?
Sometimes temptation would rub me and once in a while reprimand me to follow that keyword poilcy for that golden Seo rules in driving traffic to my site through that “faster than nascar ” search engine. But if i’m too conscious in writing for that search machine, what happens to my poetry? You just can’t follow it all the way and still end up creative.
Well, life is a compromise, you can’t always have your sweet cakes and end up not being diabetic. In the end it’s a matter of choice: whether you write just for yourself or for your readers or both. Either way, it still helps to learn the rudiments of web traffic, search engine and brilliant content.
Still creativity sacrificed is creativity gained. It’s like surfing the waves , having the surfboard , never turning your back on the incoming waves. Learned to flow with it, through it and learned that no matter what, one needs the surfboard and the waves, one needs the other, to stay longer.
And what happens to creativity as an artist? It is always there. Keeping your readers and learning the curve is always a creative journey.
I’m not a blogging guru and i never intend to be but it doesn’t mean i can’t share you this beautiful infographic from copyblogger.
So here it is, enjoy it. 🙂
The short and long walks, the unpredictable(?) tantrums or is it that scary barks that you unleashed when you want the freedom that you need.
The crackers that i used to throw on the grass to pacify your unending demands to stay while i’m on the verge of a nervous attack especially when you chase those helpless cute small dogs you bully when all you need is just a playmate.
The dirt my shoes accumulate when the deer suddenly appeared , i was almost thrown away because you want it your way. I promised this time, i won’t let you play.
But when you give me that innocent look, that oscar worthy act of begging to be out, my heart just melt. And i can’t blame you for being just the way you are…. Crazy, Sweet and Damn Bitchy just like Me.
