Life is Like a Boat Ride

Life is like a boat ride, joys of joel writings, reflections about life and boat rides
Life is like a boat ride – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

Life is like a boat ride. It comes in different boats and vessels.  Huge or small, in whatever shape or form.

It may come in golden moments just like that cruise on a beautiful sunset.  Memorable moments with screams and laughters just like that unforgettable banana boat ride.

Sometimes it scares you when you feel all alone in that small canoe,  in the middle of the vast ocean when storm is brewing and wave’s flashing.

There are times it gives you thrills as you reach your peak while you do that white water rafting, not alone but with a team who took risks, just like family sticking with you come hell or high water.

And no matter how big or small the boat you’re riding,  and how calm the weather is,  you still feel that bouncy bumpy moment, making you wonder why the ride is not smooth sailing when everything seems right.

Sometimes, even if you knew that it’s not a one dimensional journey when you thread on that deep unpredictable water, you still hop in because the boat is coming.

No amount of nausea inducing ride can stop you from trying the ride. Deep inside, you believe you can always adjust the sails because you are the captain.

And  if sometimes life makes you feel you’re just a passenger, you still hold on to that rail.  Clutching your bag of prayers, hoping that the captain will steer it right, believing that nothing is really hopeless.

No time to stand, wait and hope that another boat is coming.  You jump, dive in and swim with faith as your life vest and hope as your anchor.

It doesn’t really matter this time if you know how to swim.  What matters is you know how to find your way.  This time you knew that when the sea gets rough, you don’t look at the water swirling around you.  It will only make you feel worse and scare you more.

Just look at the horizon far away.  It’s the only stable thing when the ride is bumpy.  And that horizon will make you hold on because you deserve to be there.

And you will thank yourself for trying the boat ride. Because now you know the answer.

The Singapore Flyer and The Rides of Your Life By Joel F

joys of joel writings, singapore flyer. writings about life and its ride
The Singapore Flyer and The Rides Of Your Life – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

I was in Marina Bay Sands Skypark enjoying the cool air and  the splendid view when i noticed a huge Ferris Wheel standing tall from a distance. So i took a photo,  sat on a floor and politely ask a stranger to take my photo with the Ferris Wheel as a backdrop.

The kind stranger told me it’s not a Ferris Wheel, it’s called “The Singapore Flyer.”  Thanks for the view and the info, i decided that i won’t leave singapore without trying that  ride.

The Singapore Flyer is just a walking distance from the Skypark and for a mere 29 singapore dollars one can already experience the flyer ride. It’s a totally different experience from the skypark as this time it gives you an entirely different view of singapore’s skyline from the moving angles of your flight.

It’s like flying, slowly, vertically and seeing a different perspective on how your surrounding changes depending on how and where you look at.  It’s like a ferris wheel ride you experienced during your childhood days but this time it’s more of an awe and less of a scream.  One get awed on how a single place can look so different depending on how you are moving.

Just like life, a single moment can have a thousand perspectives depending on how you look at it and the angles of the movement where your sight is leading.  There are views that were always there but were overlooked because our vision is just relative to the direction where we are standing.  Suddenly the same place looks bigger or smaller as one moves during the ride.

The ride reminds me of a journey, as it moves from top to bottom, you feel a different high when you see the world while you’re on top and feel a willful surrender when you’re at the bottom with high hopes for changes without even knowing that it will always be the same.  The only time it will change is when one open his sights to different angles, just like that singapore flyer ride, the views are always there, it’s the ride that changes the view.

Aloha – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

“Hawaii is paradise. It sounds cheesy to say it, but there’s music in the air there.”. –Bruno Mars.

Yes, there’s music, a melody that springs from your heart and a rhythm that springs from your hope.  Hawaii is such a beautiful place, some say it’s a paradise, others say it is heaven.

No matter how you call it, one thing is sure, you can’t get enough of it especially when you’re about to leave.  It’s a mini California: countless beaches . only bigger waves for surfers, endless branded boutiques and countless hollywood celebrities.

Should I say a a mini vegas too? So many hotels, exotic and world class shows.  A mini Jamaica because reggae is everywhere.  So many Japanese, Asians, Europeans; domestic and international tourists.

History, Culture, Shopping, Nature, for such a small state, there’s so much things to do and so many places to see. You walk , bike, drive, swim, surf or dive, or just simply do nothing,  lay on the beach and watch the sunset and the changing colors of the sky.

Hawaiian Funeral Photography by https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

I’d love to post all my pictures here,  Hawaii is such a paradise i believe it needs a whole website for it.

I remember walking by the beach  and  witnessing a beach wedding and a funeral simultaneously happening, reminding me of life  itself  where falling in love is like experiencing the joys of wedding and break ups giving you the feel of  attending your own funeral.  Life is a bitch really. Ooops, I mean Life is a Beach.  🙂

Why Am I Speechless

why am i speechless , joys of joel musings, nature photography and life quotes
Why Am I Speechless? – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

The bright blue sky above the tranquil blue sea, a  small boat reminding me of  life sailing  away.  To find a better shore or just to find some peace, why am I speechless if I have a thousand words to say?

Yes, life is like a river, the stream is always moving.  Moments pass us once but memories keep returning.  Life is also like an ocean, its vastness bewilders me. The serene and calm water with its sudden splashing waves.

Amazed by the sunrise as I look at the great ocean view, reminding me that today is no longer yesterday .  Yet, why am i frightened by a beautiful sunset? Perhaps because the fading sun welcomes darkness and its hues, reminding me that daylight needs to rest and need to stray the view.

And if I jump and start to follow the promise of a beautiful shore, I might get adrift by the whims of the ocean’s lore.  But if I choose to stay and hold on for one more day,  will everything stays the same as the boat has sailed away?

*** An excerpt from my not so worn out diary.  Not my current state of mind, i just want to use a corresponding story for the photo. Oh, why am i explaining? I should be speechless right? 🙂

The Empty Subway – joysofjoel.wordpress.com

Traveling in a busy bustling city, i was surprised to see a subway with almost no people to see.

Am i in the right place?  Perhaps it’s not the right time.  Whichever way i am going, whether there’s a crowd or none, i know the train is coming.

So i stood still and just keep standing, what matters is i know where i’ll be going.

The Movie in My Mind – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

We watch.  We act.  We celebrate.
We create.  We participate.

Our life is our greatest masterpiece.

As we watch it unfolds on our own naked eyes
We live to tell our story.

Just like our favorite movie
we share and relive it.

The best movie is our life.
And we are the stars.

Color Blind – joys of joel poetry and photography in living colors – – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com

It will always be back
to hide its secrets in black

Or cover it with white
during the absence of the light.

Black or white and even grays
that’s what it wants to say

Hope that you won’t ride
and sit on that midnight train.

But you can’t keep it waiting
soon it will be showing

True colors that will spark
no matter where it’s hiding

And if you fail to see
the colors of its glee

Your heart will tell you why
because you’re color blind.

Longing, Lessons from the Sea lions

Longing, lessons from the sea lions, joys of joel poem, poem about home and longing
Longing, Lessons from the sea lions

Whispers of foreflippers
Swim beyond my borders

In my little corner
of water and wonders.

Universe is unfolding
Offering a deep longing

Searching for the reasons
to fulfill my mission.

Endless wishes
unending questions

Hearing voices
just like my own

Telling me
i’m not alone.

But your flashing lights
and all your laughters

Would make me think
pause and wonder

Just because i’m not alone
Does it mean that i am home.
