A friend comes home unnoticed. Her teenage son is busy with his mobile legend while her daughter doesn’t even know she’s home. In jest, I told her “Get a puppy, or dogs. At least you’ll be comforted that there is someone who is always happy to see you.”
I don’t know why I said that. I’m too insensitive I guess. Truthfully, no matter what, there will always be someone who will need you, love you, or want you. It doesn’t matter in what order. And as time goes by, every passing year, the order changes, for humans I think.
I just can’t think of a right graphic for that quote, so I used my dogs. After all, there is no better way to express unconditional love than citing a dog’s love. Well, just next to my mom’s love of course. Hey, I’m not saying my dogs are at par with her. Neither am I implying that I give more time to my dogs than her. And I know I’m guilty because I always give my dogs a treat every time I arrived home. My mom seldom receive anything from me when I see her. Inspite of that, I know she will always be someone who is happy to see me (just like them too) 🙂
I took out my ipad from my bag, took a cupcake bite and did a snapshot of the leftover cookies on the other table left by a stranger.
The cafe attendant perhaps amused by my action approached me and said “Sir you can take a photo of our desserts in the counter for your food blog. ”
I declined and thanked her. I don’t want to offend her feelings. It’s not their products that warrant my ipad lens but those small insects that polarize on those helpless cookies that are really getting my attention.
How in the world can ants suddenly appear in split seconds after the little girl left her cookie?
How fast and smart. They can sense an opportunity a mile away. No different from humans who in a snap of a finger will cling to you acting like a loyal patron and be gone like a total stranger when they find you useless.
They stick with you like ants because you smell so sweet and leave you a bitter taste in the mouth after they’re done with their mission. Just like those fair-weathered friends who are not really fair or should i say not really your friends.
So you look at those ants until they’re gone, inching their way back to their colony serving their queen as you finish your choco float, wipe your lips and keep your remaining cookies.
A spill over on your drinks might tempt them to go back to your table but you don’t really mind this time.
It’s not their fault if you’re careless. You can’t blame them when you left your cookie jar open.
They will always be who they are. Changing colors like a chameleon is their true nature. You can’t really blame them.
After all, ants and humans belong to the same animal kingdom.
Years ago, i saw a double-decker bus in Rizal park, a park and amusement center in Manila. As a young child, i was so amazed to see a two storey bus, i wonder how it feels to ride on top of the deck and see the world from the top.
We were on the park walking when my dad told us that we will go to the circle to try the “bump ride”. My brother jump with joy finally knowing that he can experience driving an electric kiddie car .
The baby car where one can drive and use one’s skill to avoid bumping or should i say intentionally bump others so you can have fun. A very typical kiddie male kind of thing, driving and bumping to satiates one’s thrill glands. You wouldn’t call it a “Bump A Car Ride” if you always end up avoiding a bump, that won’t be fun at all.
My parents were surprised when i told them i don’t like that ride. I’d rather ride the bus, pointing to the double decker bus that ply all over the street.
My mom said, “you want to ride the love bus?” , I nod and say “yes.” (Love Bus? I was wondering how come it was called The Love Bus when its color was blue, it should have been painted red as red is the color of love.)
Yes, red is the color of love. I see red roses being sold outside my school during valentines. Santa Claus wears red and he loves us all kids. Red love letters, rosy red cheeks when you blushed and all those red wines associated with a candlelit dinner during valentines.
Years later, i realized why the love bus is blue, because sometimes love can make your world so blue after making you so red!
After trying the bump ride , my parents finally agreed to try the Love Bus after pestering them (pardon my word) with “I don’t want a candy , i want to ride the love bus, i don’t like to eat that burger, i want to ride that bus!”( I’m not really a brat, i just know what i want.)
Imagine my excitement when we climb the stairs of the bus and finally reaching the top. Although manila is not filled with tall buildings that time, i was bewildered seeing the clouds, looking up, looking down at the jeepneys that ply the street, the cool breeze of the wind that touches your face. For a young mind, it’s everything.
It was in hong kong when i experienced my second (and so far my last) double decker bus ride on our family holiday but wonders of wonder it never occurred to me why i never tried riding those double-decker buses while i’m in vegas or while i’m traveling anywhere where there are several double decker bus trips.
And yet as a grown up (well, not that i did really grow up as my mom always ask me “to grow up” after all these years) i will always take a second look everytime i see a double decker bus passed by.
That’s why i even hurriedly ask a stranger to take my photo when i saw a parked red double-decker bus while i was strolling in downtown toronto . Finally, the Love Bus is red this time.
The thrill of riding a double decker bus was gone but the memories of the first time (as always) will linger.
Although i’ll never know when i’ll be riding a double decker bus again, one thing is for sure, i will ride the Love Bus anytime and it doesn’t matter if it’s red or blue.
**Photo was taken while visiting my high schoolmates in California. They brought me to Dell’Osso Family Farm in Tracy for a wonderful game of racing through the biggest corn maze in the United States. I lost in the race but win priceless memories of bonding with my classmates and their kids. How time flies.
I have to write a blogpost regarding these events and i am in a quandary as what to post.
Should i make a beautiful artwork of my past halloween photos, those flirty gay costumes that led to a one night stand somewhere in west hollywood?
or narrate my real life ghost stories, the “I SEE DEAD PEOPLE” kind of thing that almost resemble that Bruce Willis Sixth Sense movie?
Hmm, or just post something about My Favorite Ghost Movies. Let Me think.
All right, i’ll go with the subtle one first : My Favorite Ghost Movies (listed in no particular order just like those finalists in Miss Universe contest).
Somewhere in Time (Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour)
This is a classic movie. This is the very first movie that made me cry. Why? Honestly? Simply because i don’t understand the story.
I was in grade school playing with my neighbour when her sister and her sister’s gay friends started screaming because they’ll be watching the gorgeous mister superman christopher reeve.
While I was playing dolls with my gal pal, I’m also watching the film, although I never really understood the plot as my playmate keep talking to me.
What I knew was this film made the gay guys cry and I don’t know why I also cried with them . And when they started singing that “Somewhere in Time “ song, I can see in their faces that they really mean every word of it. (which I later understood when I had my first broken heart)
Years after, during my high school days I look for this film and this time watch it all alone and oh boy, it’s really a touchy movie. Looking back I can say it’s not your typical ghost story. It’s actually more of a fantasy love story , more of a time travel , back to the past sort of thing.
Ghost (Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg)
What can I say? Another movie that made me cry but this time I knew why.
A commercial success that proves that a ghost movie need not be that horrifying and grotesque to be a blockbuster hit.
I love Demi Moore , her beautiful face and trendy short hair is unforgettable and that lip lock with Whoopi is such an epic scene for me. Beautiful.
This movie shows what true love is all about even after death.
And who would ever forget Ghost theme song “Unchained Melody”, the ghost song that riveted all over the radios and pop charts even years after the movie was shown.
Just Like Heaven (Reese Witherspoon, Mark Ruffalo)
One of my favorite Reese Witherspoon’s movie. This is a heartwarming cute love story This is about an architect falling in love with the spirit of the woman who used to live in his apartment.
Well, I don’t really have to tell you the whole story. I’m not making a review here either. I just like this movie and I like Reese Witherspoon . ( and Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep who happened to be not in this movie 😉 )
The Sixth Sense ( Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment)
“I see dead people….. all the time. They don’t know they’re dead. They’re everywhere.”
Truly one of my favorite ghost movies.
Some people may not agree with me but there are things that up to now science can’t still explain and seeing dead people or ghosts is one of them. Some call it a gift, others call it a curse.
Whatever it is, this movie made me realized that whatever gift you have, one must always use it for the right reasons.
The brilliant performance of a young guy haley would really make you believe he is scared to death, and really seeing ghosts. Superb acting.
And yes, this movie is also all about love, being accepted for who you are and believing in yourself even if others call you a freak .
This movie made me cry again. (I am such a cry baby and who would ever think a ghost movie would make me shed tears?)
The Others (Nicole kidman)
“ Death of a loved one can lead people to do the strangest things.”
“Sometimes the world of the living gets mixed up with the world of the dead”
Such a brilliant way of storytelling. One thing good about this movie is the way the story is being narrated.
The suspense, the angst of putting you at the edge of your seat just by making you think.
The unexpected twist in the ending.
This is not a typical ghost story where you have to scream at every scene, where you need dark cinematography to scare your wits.
Its simple no frills, no high technology make up or production , can still make you think and wonder what the hell is going on and still end up not being shortchange.
Truly a masterpiece. I must say This is my All Time Favorite Ghost Movie.
The Ghostbusters (Dan Akroyd)
Enough of the heavy ones. This film is a mushy ghost movie that made me laugh. The only ghost movie where I keep laughing.
The plastic gadgets that we all bought on a mall just to appear cool during Halloweens. This movie is a crap, but the only crap that I really love.
And nothing can be funnier when you sing that song “If there’s something strange in the neighbourhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!”
Unforgettable song for growing kids, who would ever imagine we would sing and dance this on our Christmas Presentation and it’s not even Halloween.
