Don’t Follow Your Heart

poem about regret, is fear stopping you, joys of joel poems, dont follow your heart
Don’t Follow Your Heart – https://joysofjoel.wordpress.com/

Don’t follow your heart
it will be broken

by the power of your master
in pieces it will shatter

your dreams of forever.

Don’t follow your heart
endings will be the start

of unending beginnings

But if weakness
is your courage

and freedom is your cage
then listen to its whisper

Embrace its chapter
of love and hate

Don’t follow your heart
And you’ll meet an ever faithful friend

Who will always be with you
Even in the dawning of the sunset

His name is Regret.

  1. Ah this is so sad but I have to follow my heart for I am loved and in love and I would rather experience some happiness at the risk of regret and pain. The saying ‘better to have lost and haved than never loved’ seems apt.

    1. Truly, one should always try than regret not trying. Thanks Daisy in the willows for sharing your thoughts . I appreciate it you stopping by.

  2. I left a comment when I read your poem a couple of days ago but I can’t see it here now. I hope you don’t mind I posted a part of your poem today 🙂
    I think it’s beautiful 🙂

  3. Joel, I’m so glad Paola linked here. I only like certain types of poetry (don’t like too cryptic). Yours is truly poetic and I love the poignancy! Beautiful use of words, metaphors—oxymorons that WORK! And yes, regret is something I hate feeling. I typically live by a “never say woulda/coulda/shoulda” motto 🙂

    1. I haven’t thought of that, from a positive note that’s a beautiful irony and yes that’s a great thought from a different perspective. Thanks Sayanti , i appreciate it you reading my blog and sharing your heart. Take Care.

  4. God tells us to follow our heart Joel but yes our focus must be on Him or our heart will be eternally broken as you shared.

Mark 12:30-31 And thou shalt Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first Commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt Love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other Commandment greater than these.(KJV)

Deuteronomy 6:5-6 And thou shalt Love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:(KJV)

    Blessings – Anne.
